Trump the Joker

In Jeff Yang's article, "Joker, a political parable for our times," he makes a valid comparison about the new movie, Joker, to our political system. If you have seen the movie, you and many others are able to dissect the film and compare it to our changing society, Yang does a great job at the comparison to President Trump. Joker has created an outrage due to the messages and violence shown throughout the movie.

Yang's argument is that Arthur Fleck, a deranged mentally ill man who gains a large amount of followers from his actions and becomes the Joker, he gets praised on for his violence, causes a social and political movement towards the end of the movie compares to our President and his follower count. Both men have gained a large amount of following that brings them to power. While Arthur despise the entitled white men, Trump adores them, both acknowledge a bad side of minorities.

From Trump winning the election to Arthur fully becoming the Joker, he provides evidence of the rise of both men coming to the power they gained over people. Throughout all the violence cause, Trump metaphorically dances and shrugs off as if he is doing no harm.

I agree with the argument he's making about the comparison between both men. He makes valid statements and includes factual proof of what Trump has done in the past that has created such problems that are viewed in the movies. It almost gives a glimpse of what could happen in the future.

  1. I am writing this as a response to “Trump the Joker”. I remember when Trump first started his political campaigns. I remember thinking to myself “this dude is a clown, there is no way he has a chance”. Fast forward a little later and he became the main candidate for the Republican Party, won presidency and is now intending to serve a second term, hopefully the latter will not happen.
It is very well known to us that Americans are either far right or far left and there is those few of us that are willing to have a civil discussion. A great example of being far right was this election, I didn’t have a problem with people voting Republican, I had a problem with people choosing Trump as the face of the Republican Party. Voting for Trump meant overlooking all the hateful things he has said, it was undivided loyalty to a political party regardless of outcome. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” This quote right here was said by Trump at one of his campaign rallies to his audience. That is when I lost all respect for him and when he proved to be a “joker”. He marginalized a whole country, his neighbor country. Trump is very much like the joker except he doesn’t commit violent acts, instead he promotes hatred with statements like this.
